San Francisco Opera Opening Night

For the 97th season of San Francisco Opera, opening night consisted of an exhilarating production of “Roméo et Juliette” with a stellar cast. Nadine Sierra and Pene Pati starred as the tragic lovers and Lucas Meachem sang the role of Mercutio. Yves Abel masterfully conducted and Jean-Louis Grinda directed.

Lucas received the following acclaim:

“Baritone Lucas Meachem gave a commanding, finely detailed performance as Mercutio”  -San Francisco Chronicle

“Baritone Lucas Meachem was a standout as Romeo’s fellow Montague Mercutio, sporting dramatic heft and robust resonance, especially in his Act 1 aria ‘Mab, la reine des mensonges.’” – San Francisco Examiner

“Meachem’s lyric baritone continues to grow in power. His effective acting, beautiful French, convincing swordplay and Gallic demeanor made me regret that Mercutio is a shorter role. He has successfully performed one of the most iconic French roles, Athanaël In Massenet’s ‘Thaïs’, to great acclaim.” – Opera Warhorses
