Tannhäuser at Los Angeles Opera / Lucas “made it glow” as Wolfram.

Not often does this monumental work of music and theatre come to live theatre and at Los Angeles Opera, it was a special occasion. Lucas sang the role of Wolram who sings the iconic aria, “O, du, mein Holde Abendstern”. The cast was stellar with Sarah Jakubiak, Issachah Savage, and Morris Robinson, and music director maestro James Conlon in the pit. Below are some notable reviews of the performance:

“Wolfram, who also loves Elisabeth, sings his ode to the evening star, and Lucas Meachem made it glow.” – LA Times

“Baritone Lucas Meachem proved a formidable Wolfram, the one cavalier who doesn’t turn against the hero, his gentle, ‘Song to the Evening Star’ a highlight” – San Francisco Classical Voice

“Baritone Lucas Meachem could barely contain the passion underneath the formal veneer of Wolfram, and his solid rendition of the hit aria ‘Evening Star’ was seconded by gorgeous playing from the cellos.” – Classical Voice America

“His Wolfram was so stentorian, in the best way, and he never sacrificed beauty of tone for volume.” – Parterre
